Percy Jackson & the Olympians

I have always personally enjoyed Mythology, from pretty much any culture and country. Which is why I recently picked up the book Percy Jackson & the Olympians: Book One, after seeing the trailer for the upcoming Disney film by the same name. The books themselves are about the children of ancient Greek Gods, such as Zeus, Poseidon, Athena, Hermes and many more. The hero of the stores happens to be the son of Poseidon. Something that is frowned upon as the big three Gods (Zeus, Hades and Poseidon) made a vow to stop having kids with mortals. The series itself follows Percy's exploits as he tries to balance being half mortal and half God and the many individuals who are out to kill him as a result of his unique heritage. The book series is geared towards young adults, so at time it's a little tedious or just plain silly at times. No swearing, no real violence and a lot of the situations are just ridiculous, but it is still an enjoyable light bit of fluff reading. As such a book only takes the average (adult) reader a day or two to complete. I have already finished the first book and have moved on to the second book in the series. So far there are 5 books out and at the rate I am going I should have them all read by next week. Hopefully the film will be equally enjoyable, but it is Disney after all.
